Manager Ruaidhri Higgins of Dungannon Swifts is setting his sights on a strong start to the upcoming 26/27 BOYLE Sports Premiership. Speaking ahead of the season, Higgins emphasized that while last year's achievements are significant, they must now be put aside as the team focuses on the present and future goals.
‘Last season is now history,’ Higgins stated. ‘It’s gone now and we will be judged on this season coming. What’s happened in the past, certainly in my head, is in the past. We have to move on and there’s always something better you can achieve and that’s what we have to strive for.’
Despite the team's success last year, which included a second-place finish in the Premiership, qualification for European competitions, and winning the Irish Cup, Higgins remains grounded. The Bannsiders will begin their campaign with a tough fixture against Coleraine, who they faced at the end of last season.
‘We’re really excited that the first of 38 games is here,’ said Higgins. ‘But we know Dungannon Swifts are a really good side, they’ve real strength in depth and we watched them at the weekend. They’ve played in really big matches in recent times, so it’s a really tough first fixture.’
Despite the challenge posed by their opponents, Higgins is confident that his team can make an impact early on. ‘However, we want to go there, stamp our authority on the game and try to win it,’ he added.
