Dungannon Swifts have climbed to second place in the Northern Ireland Premiership after a run of four straight victories. They sit on 12 points from five games, just four points behind league leaders Coleraine FC, who they lost to on the opening day of the season.
The Swifts' recent form reads WWWWL, with the only defeat coming in that 3-1 home loss to Coleraine on 8 August. Since then, Rodney McAree's side have secured wins against Portadown, Bangor, Cliftonville and, most recently, Limavady United. A 2-0 away win at Limavady on 5 September, with goals from L. Alves and J. Ogedi-Uzokwe, extended their winning run.
Strong defensive foundation
A key factor in the surge up the table has been a solid defensive record. Across the five league games so far, Dungannon have conceded only three goals while scoring eight, giving them a goal difference of +5. This defensive resilience has provided a platform for the attacking players to find their rhythm. The clean sheet against Limavady was their third in the last four matches, a statistic that will please the coaching staff.
The Coleraine challenge
The opening day defeat to Coleraine remains a significant marker. That result, a 3-1 reverse at Stangmore Park, is the sole blemish on an otherwise perfect start. The two clubs have a competitive recent history, with multiple meetings across the 2025/26 season. Fixtures on 28 February, 18 October, and 19 August of last year were all tightly contested. With Coleraine currently top, the Swifts will be looking to close the gap when the sides meet again later in the campaign.

Looking ahead to Ballymena
Attention now turns to the next fixture, a home match against Ballymena United scheduled for 19 December. Ballymena currently occupy ninth place in the Premiership. The Swifts will be confident of maintaining their momentum in front of their own supporters at Stangmore Park. A victory would keep the pressure on Coleraine and consolidate their position in the top two.
