Dungannon Swifts' scheduled Boyle Sports Premiership match against Cliftonville has been postponed due to the arrival of Storm Boelo. The fixture, set for Saturday, was called off as an amber weather warning for wind was issued for parts of Northern Ireland.
The Met Office warning is in effect from 9pm Saturday until 9pm Sunday for counties Antrim and Derry, with a wider yellow warning covering the entire country from 10am Saturday. "The strongest winds from Storm Boelo are expected from Saturday evening and extend eastwards through Sunday," the forecaster said. Gusts could reach up to 75 miles per hour, leading to the postponement of several other fixtures, including Glentoran's match against Ballymena United.
For Dungannon Swifts, the delay interrupts their league schedule as they sit eighth in the Premiership with 14 points from 11 games, a record of four wins, two draws and five losses. Their form in the league has been mixed, with one win, two draws and two losses in their last five Premiership outings, a sequence that includes a 2-4 defeat to Carrick Rangers and a 2-0 loss to Glentoran. They have scored 11 goals this season while conceding 14. The postponement follows a 2-1 victory over Bangor in the Irish Cup on Tuesday 20 October, where goals from J. Glackin and K. Dillon secured the win, a result that ended a four-game winless run in all competitions.
Other games affected include the Irish FA Women’s Challenge Cup Final between Glentoran Women and Cliftonville Ladies, which has been moved to Tuesday 27 October. The Irish FA stated that all purchased tickets remain valid and thanked clubs and supporters for their understanding. The league's standings show Dungannon Swifts are one point and one place above their next intended opponents, Cliftonville, who are ninth.
With the match off, Dungannon Swifts' next scheduled action is now dependent on the rescheduling of this fixture. The team, which is 18 points behind leaders Linfield, will now have to wait for a new date for the home clash with Cliftonville, originally set for Saturday 24 October.
